Calculix.ca — your financial tools designed for Québec

Calculix.ca is a free toolbox of financial calculators designed for individuals, freelancers and small businesses in Québec. Our goal: make everyday financial calculations accessible, fast and reliable, with no signup, no subscription and without sending your data anywhere.

Each tool addresses a real need: building a couple's budget, projecting retirement with a TFSA or RRSP, understanding a mortgage's amortization, splitting tips on a team, calculating GST and QST on an invoice, or evaluating an investment project with NPV and IRR. Everything runs in your browser, in French, English and Spanish.

How to choose the right calculator?

Here's how to navigate our tools based on your situation:

Managing your personal finances

  • To structure a budget, open the Personal Budget or Couple Budget. 50/30/20 method, average Québec expenses and saving tips included.
  • To project savings or retirement, use Investment Projection. It illustrates compound interest over 5, 10, 25 or 40 years.
  • To simulate a mortgage or loan, the Amortization calculator details principal, interest and the effect of accelerated payments.

Working as a team or in hospitality

  • The Tip calculator splits the pool evenly or prorated by hours worked.
  • For your invoices and receipts, the tool automatically applies GST (5%) and QST (9.975%) to Revenu Québec standards.

Entrepreneur or manager

  • To evaluate an investment project, open the NPV/IRR calculator: cash flows, discount rate, payback period.
  • If your business has 10+ employees, the pay equity tool guides you through the obligations imposed by the CNESST.
Who are these tools for?

Calculix.ca calculators target several audiences, all easy to use without prior training:

  • Individuals wanting to take charge of their finances: students, young workers, families, retirees.
  • Freelancers who need to quickly produce a compliant invoice or evaluate a project's profitability.
  • Small and medium businesses looking for a fast tool for routine decisions: budgeting, pay equity, investment analysis.
  • Students and teachers in finance, accounting, administration or social sciences: our tools illustrate key concepts (compound interest, NPV, amortization).
  • Advisors, accountants and financial planners: a quick complement to verify a calculation or demonstrate to a client.

If you handle complex financial situations (estate planning, international tax, business optimization), Calculix.ca remains a practical starting point, but we always recommend consulting a licensed professional for your personal situation.

Why a Québec-specific site?

Québec's tax system, regulations and financial culture are distinctive. A generic North American calculator may miss several local realities:

  • Taxes: QST (9.975%) is added to GST (5%). Many U.S. tools don't compute it.
  • Deductions and credits: Québec has its own tax return and credits (childcare, work-incentive, solidarity, etc.).
  • Tips and minimum wage: Québec rules differ (separate tipped-employee minimum wage, TP-1019.4 declaration).
  • Mortgages: distinct concepts of "term" vs "amortization", CMHC insurance, welcome tax.
  • Pay equity: a legal obligation unique to Québec for businesses with 10+ employees, under CNESST jurisdiction.

Calculix.ca takes these specifics into account to deliver results applicable to your daily reality — in Montréal, Québec City, Sherbrooke, Saguenay or in the regions.

Privacy, free access and funding

Calculix.ca is and will remain 100% free. No signup needed, no paywall, no premium tier. To cover hosting costs and keep developing new tools, the site is funded by:

  • A few Google AdSense ads placed discreetly on the pages.
  • Affiliate links to useful products (personal-finance books on Amazon, Excel/Power BI training from Le CFO masqué).
  • Voluntary donations from users who want to support the project ("Buy me a coffee" button).

On privacy, every calculation runs in your browser. No value you enter (income, mortgage, project) is sent to our servers. See our privacy policy for cookie details (anonymized Analytics, AdSense, language preference).

General FAQ

Are the calculations reliable?

Yes. Our tools use standard financial formulas (compound interest, amortization, NPV, IRR). They reflect current Québec tax parameters. That said, they are informative and don't replace a professional's advice for important decisions.

Is my data saved?

No — your inputs disappear when you close the page (only your language preference is kept locally). No information is sent to a server. You can export results to Excel where the tool offers it.

Can I use Calculix.ca on my phone?

Absolutely. All calculators work on desktop, tablet and phone, in portrait or landscape. No app to install.

Can I embed a calculator on my own site?

There's no official embeddable version yet. If you run a site that could benefit from integration (school, community organization, accounting firm), email us at info@calculix.ca.

What new tools are planned?

We're working on additional calculators: Québec income tax, QPP and Old Age Security, rent-vs-buy comparison, student loan. Suggestions welcome at info@calculix.ca.
